Setup, step by step

  1. Get the installer on your Mac or PC

    Shadow on your computer only exists to put Shadow Mobile on your iPhone. On Windows, install Apple Devices from the Microsoft Store first. If Windows shows a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen, click More info › Run anyway. ShadowSetup.dmg: macOS 12 or later. ShadowSetup.exe: Windows 10 or later (64-bit).

  2. Plug in your iPhone and click Install

    Sign in with your Apple ID, connect the phone with a cable, unlock it and tap Trust if asked. Then click Install Shadow Mobile. This is the only time you need the computer.

  3. Trust the app on your iPhone

    The app is signed with your own Apple ID, so iOS asks you to approve it once: Settings › General › VPN & Device Management, tap your Apple ID, then Trust.

  4. Turn on Developer Mode

    Settings › Privacy & Security › Developer Mode, switch it on and let the iPhone restart. Confirm with your passcode when it comes back.

  5. Connect the helper

    Open Shadow Mobile. It asks you to install LocalDevVPN, a free helper that runs the connection. Install it from the App Store, allow Local Network access, and tap Connect.

  6. Enter your email in the app

    Open Shadow Mobile, enter your email, then type the 4-digit code we send you. No purchase yet? You still get 10 free minutes a day. Prefer a key? Tap “I have a license key” and paste the backup key from your purchase email.

  7. Pick a place and spoof

    Search anywhere or drop a pin and start spoofing. No computer needed anymore.

  8. Refresh once a week

    In Shadow Mobile, go to Settings › Keep Shadow Installed › Refresh. Do this every 6 days so the app stays installed. If you miss it, plug back into your computer and click Install again.

If it won't connect

  1. On your computer, open Shadow with the iPhone plugged in and click “Save pairing file” under the Install button. Save it somewhere easy to find.
  2. Send the file to your iPhone — AirDrop is quickest; iCloud Drive, Files or emailing it to yourself all work.
  3. In Shadow Mobile, tap “Upload Pairing File” and pick the file you just sent.
  4. Make sure Developer Mode is on and LocalDevVPN shows Connected, then try again.
